A long, curved built-in planter on the balcony of a high-rise apartment with a city skyline view. Early photos show the planter stripped back to bare, tired soil with one existing multi-stemmed plant (appears to be a ponytail palm or dracaena), which was kept; later photos show it finished as a pebble garden designed for low upkeep. A cloud-pruned tree (appears to be podocarpus) is the focal point, set among white pebbles, granite rocks, small grass-like tufts and green and variegated peperomia-type plants, with small spotlights in the pebbles, beside a timber deck. Two photos show the team planting the tree over a geotextile sheet.

Every photograph on this page is our own, taken on site. We have described only what they show.

The photographs

From the site.

Curved balcony planter with a cloud-pruned tree, white pebbles and granite rocks, city towers beyond the railing. The curved planter from the other end: variegated foliage plants in white pebbles, rocks and the cloud-pruned tree at the far end. Balcony planter of pebbles, rocks and foliage curving towards the Kuala Lumpur skyline. Close-up of the cloud-pruned tree's layered foliage pads above white pebbles. The balcony planter before the makeover: bare, lumpy soil and a single existing plant.
